Last PE3 Reflections

These were my PE 3 goals.
  • Shadow the materials on Blackboard as Shibata 先生 has suggested.
  • Practice free-speaking with my roommate Margaret Wang on a daily basis.
  • Keep watching Japanese drama to familiarize myself with natural intonation and flow.
  • Go to office hours to practice pitch and intonation.
  • Study the usage of particles.

Overall, I achieved most of my goals. I shadowed the suggested materials, which helped me with fixing my pitch problems. With Margaret, we spoke in Japanese as much as we could in our room. I watched the movie version of "Boys over Flowers." I also studied the confusing concepts of some particles. Because of schedule conflicts, I didn't get to go to office hours. I think practicing for the TV project helped a lot with speaking Japanese more naturally. It definitely helped to memorize the lines and speaking them without looking at the script.

I will be studying abroad next semester in Australia, but I will continue to familiarize myself with Japanese by reviewing grammar and watching more dramas! :D

クリスマス!

 冬休みはとてもくたのしかったです . クリスマスにりょうしんとケイキをたべて、ワインをのみましだ。テキサスはあついのであついのでホワイトクリスマスがありません。それまだ、ホットクリスマスもよかったです!
(これはわたしのうちです。I photoshopped snow in to make it more Christmassy!)

PE2 Reflection & PE3 Goal/Activity statements

PE 2 Reflection

-To start a new Japanese drama and shadow for 10 minutes once every three days
-Attend Japanese language table
-To practice reading Katakana to reach the level in which I don't have to think about one character at a time
-To practice speaking and listening for long vowels

So I started watching "Boys over Flowers" in Japanese version (I used to watch the Korean version all the time). It's really entertaining but at the same time impossible to shadow because I still don't know most of the words and structures they use. I think watching it still helped with familiarizing myself with natural intonation and such. I've been to Japanese language table twice and am planning on going more often. As far as reading Katakana, I still take some time to read them out loud but got faster at recognizing each character. I still struggle with identifying long vowels, so it still needs some work.

How to approach a girl

ワンさんとわたしはりょうでべんきょうしました。We then decided to apply what we have learned in にほんごのクラス to a "possible" real-world situation. Perhaps this is what sleep-deprivation does to people... #midtermsweek

PE1 Reflections and PE2 Goals

PE 1 Reflections

Reflecting upon my PE1 goals and activities, I realize that I've come far since then because now I can "read Hiragana characters without having to think about each character individually." I have memorized the natural flow and rhythm in words to a certain extent, but I do not think I sound like a native yet. I did attend Japanese language table which was very fun. Because the things we can say in Japanese are so limited right now, however, I think the language table will help a lot more when I have more things I can practice. I could not do shadowing 10 minutes per day, but I practiced about once every three days with Japanese drama. I've also talked to my Japanese friends in some Japanese phrases I know, and they were pleasantly surprised! :D

PE 2 Goals/Activities:

-To start a new Japanese drama and shadow for 10 minutes once every three days
-Attend Japanese language table
-To practice reading Katakana to reach the level in which I don't have to think about one character at a time
-To practice speaking and listening for long vowels
